Claim Procedure for Burst Geysers and Resultant Damages

Claim Procedure for Burst Geysers and Resultant Damages

To facilitate the claims process for burst geysers and resultant damages, please follow the steps outlined below:

Required Documentation

  1. Claim Form: Complete and sign the attached claim form. This form must be submitted to Angor to initiate the claim process.
  2. Certificate of Compliance (COC): If the claim involves a burst geyser, ensure to obtain a COC Certificate and COC Invoice from the plumber attending to the geyser replacement. The insurers will cover the cost of the COC up to R650.00, including VAT.
  3. Supporting Documents: If there are resultant water damages, the following additional documents must be provided:
    • Proof that the cause of the leak has been resolved (invoice).
    • Photographs of all resultant damages needing repair.
    • At least two quotes for the repairs.
    • Detailed damage reports from contractors providing quotes.

Coverage Details

·        Burst Geyser Coverage:

    • Policies will specify the maximum coverage amount for geyser replacement.
    • The applicable excess will also be detailed in the policy and will be the responsibility of the claimant.

·        Geyser Maintenance Coverage:

    • Policies will outline the maximum coverage limit for maintenance-related claims.
    • The policy will indicate the applicable excess, which is payable by the claimant.

Warning

Important Notes

  • Warranty: KWIKOT geysers carry a 5-year warranty. If your geyser is KWIKOT and still under warranty, repairs should be handled by the manufacturer. Contact KWIKOT at 011 897 4600 for assistance. Insurance will not cover costs for repairs or replacements still under guarantee.
  • Owner Responsibilities: Owners are responsible for the excess amounts as well as any costs not covered by the insurance.

o   For example, if the plumber charges R10,500 for a 100L geyser, the policy limit is R10,000, and the excess is R3,500, the owner must cover R500 in addition to the R3,500 excess.

o   In this scenario, the insurance would pay R10,000, minus the R3,500 excess, resulting in a payment of R6,500. Therefore, the owner is also required to pay the additional R500 to cover the plumber's invoice.

  • Claim Timeline: Claims must be submitted within 30 days from the date of loss to the BC Insurance.

Contractor Quote Requirements for Resulting Damages

  1. The quote must include:
    • Name and address of the complex and unit number.
    • A detailed description of the cause of damage (e.g., roof leak, burst geyser, etc.).
    • The quote should be on the contractor's letterhead and accompanied by photographs.

The insurance brokers will assess the submitted documentation and inform you of the excess amount applicable to your claim.

If you have any questions regarding your coverage or need assistance with a claim, please reach out to the ANGOR Team for support on insurance@angor.co.za.
